When the option "Parent" is selected, it adds the available characteristic, as a parent characteristic in the structure, to the key characteristic selected.

When the option "Child" is selected, it adds the available characteristic, as a child characteristic in the structure, to the key characteristic selected.

It is populated with the description and characteristic ID from the Characteristic table.

The number of characters to be entered before the list is shown is governed by the value of "populate length" (optional).

This field is only mandatory when adding a characteristic to the structure.

This grid provides the user with the detail of the characteristics in the structure and displays the characteristic ID, characteristic description and field type of all the characteristics in the structure.

It displays the tree structure of the selected characteristic, either top down or bottom up once the "Display Structure" button has been clicked.

Once the  button has been clicked, or a characteristic has been added to or deleted from the Structure, the "Display Structure" button must be clicked so that the characteristic structure of the selected key characteristic can be built or rebuilt and displayed.

Explode shows the bottom up structure, while implode shows the top down structure of the selected key characteristic.
