The language codes function is used to view system defined languages and to view and maintain user defined languages.  A system defined language is not based on another language.  (It can also be identified by having a single alpha character code between A and Z.)  System defined languages and data for system defined languages is maintained by the development house only.  User define languages must have a single numeric character code between 0 and  9, must have a description of at least 4 characters and must be based on a system define language.
