The parameters tab is applied to define the rules for the comparison to made between 2 or more Bills of material.

The parameters mainly defines the BOM-numbers to compared as well as the projects and serial numbers where applicable.

The parameters allows you to:

1.Compare the same bill of material to itself by applying different effective dates
2.Compare the standard version of a bill of material to a project specific version of the same BOM
3.Compare the project specific version of a BOM to the same BOM for the same project by applying different serial numbers
4.Compare the project specific version of a BOM to the same BOM for another project by applying different project numbers
5.Compare different BOM numbers to one another (may present different versions/mod-levels of a product or completely different products.

The parameters further allows you to specify the level to which the BOM (s) must be exploded.

See Navigation rules (which are similar to those provided on Product structure navigation).

A frame is also provides to select whether to view only similarities, only discrepancies or both.

A similarity includes parts appearing on all compared bills with the exact same quantity.

A discrepancy includes parts that may appear on all bills but with different quantities or parts not appearing on 1 or more of the bills at all.

Normally it is more practical to compare 2 bills at a time, but the function allows you to choose up to 5 bills (although the discrepancies are less clear for the latter option).

This tab also provides the option to specify a quick jump to either Product structure (click the ‘Maintain’ button) or to Product structure navigation (click the ‘Navigate’ button). You must specify which BOM it should be done for e.g. BOM1 or BOM2.

hmtoggle_plus1BOM 1 as reference

This box is automatically checked. The option is only available when 2 bills are compared and whenever discrepancies are listed, BOM 1 will be referred to as the reference BOM.

hmtoggle_plus1BOM 2, 3, 4 and 5

These are merely headings to focus where the detail for these bills must be entered.

hmtoggle_plus1Project

A project must be selected in this field if the selected BOM relates to a project-specific BOM. Valid projects linked via Contract project reference will be displayed for selection.

hmtoggle_plus1Serial no

If a project was selected, the specific project/config serial number to be applied must be specified in this field. All valid serial numbers for the selected project are displayed for selection.

hmtoggle_plus1BOM number

This is the part number of the parent part (BOM) to be applied for the comparison. All parent part numbers from product structure are displayed for selection, except when a project was selected, in which case only parent parts that have a project-specific BOM for the selected project will be displayed.

hmtoggle_plus1Only active structure

This box is auto-checked to only apply the active structure for the specified effective date. The box can be un-checked, in which case the effective date will play no role and all component parts will be included for the comparison, whether active or inactive in the BOM.

hmtoggle_plus1Effective date

This date defaults to the current date, but can be set to a past- or even future date if required (and if the box 'Only active structure' has been checked). The BOM will be exploded as per specified date to extract components active on such date.

hmtoggle_plus1Base line frame

This frame is applied to compare order baselines, but this functionality is not yet active and is reserved for future use.

hmtoggle_plus1Navigation rules frame

The settings in this frame is applied to specify how and to which level the BOM must be exploded for the purpose of the comparison. The 'Stop at source' frame allows you to stop at parts with a certain source code e.g. manufactured, purchased etc. and if checked, the explosion of the BOM will stop once it reaches a part with such a source code at the lower levels. The box 'Exclude utilised only parts' can be checked to ignore components with a link of 'utilised'.

The frame 'Stop at 1st...' can be applied to stop at parts that have a characteristic as described in the options e.g. MRI, MRP etc.

The multi-level process will not go beyond a part that has been identified as an "MRI" Therefore, even though an MRI assembly will have a product structure, the structure will display the MRI item, but NOT the components in it's structure.

The multi-level process will not go beyond a part that has been identified as "MRP planned".Therefore, even though an MRP-planned assembly may have a product structure, the structure will display the MRP item, but NOT the components in it's structure.

The multi-level process will not go beyond a part that has been identified as an "MSI". Therefore, even though an MSI may have a product structure, the structure will display the MSI item, but NOT the components in it's structure.

The multi-level process will not go beyond a part that has been identified as an "MPS" item. Therefore, even though an MPS  assembly will very likely have a product structure, the structure will display the MPS item, but NOT the components in it's structure.

The multi-level process will not go beyond a part that has been identified as a "repairable" item Therefore, even though a repairable assembly will very likely have a product structure, the structure will display the repairable item, but NOT the components in it's structure.

The multi-level process will not go beyond a part that has been identified as being Obsolete. Therefore, even though an obsolete item may have a product structure, the structure will display the obsolete part, but NOT the components in it's structure.

hmtoggle_plus1Comparison display options frame

This frame provides 3 options for the comparison results to be displayed.

This option is applied as the default and if selected only differences will be listed which will be displayed in a red colour.

This option must be selected if only similarities must be listed. Parts common to all bills with the exact same qty per is regarded as a similarity.

This option must be selected to  display both discrepancies and similarities.

hmtoggle_plus1Product structure frame

This frame provides  options for quick jumps to either Product structure (click the ‘Maintain’ button) or to Product structure navigation (click the ‘Navigate’ button). You must specify which BOM it should be done for e.g. BOM1 or BOM2. When clicked, the relevant function will be opened.
