This function is used to cross reference all parts in your inventory, where the parts are the same item but have different part numbers assigned to them, using a standard item number of your choice. This is especially useful where a lack of standardisation in the past resulted in a scenario as described above and is primarily applicable to "standard" items that are bought from suppliers "off-the-shelf".
This function allows you to identify these parts and limit the effort required to specify characteristics, approved names and item codes to the one standard item record only, rather than for all parts involved.
For the purpose of Inventory Management this function also acts as an aid to identify whether excess stock might in fact exist for the other parts referenced to the same standard item number prior to executing an MRP suggested order.
The user must have a security profile linked to the function Part Standard Item with an access allowed of Inquire.
