This tab is applied to obtain a summarised version of the product structure. The sub tab "View results" allows for a number of filters and criteria to be specified related to Engineering, LSA and planning data to be more selective regarding the output results. You can thus explode the complete structure as per criteria specified on tab1 "Parameters" but can limit the results to parts in the BOM with a specific source, life cycle, designer, supplier and many other attributes by applying the options on the tabs "Engineering" and "Planning".

You can also filter on specific values e.g. only parts with a material cost > 1000 or a lead time > 60 days by applying the options on the tab "Additional options".

You can decide which display columns should be included in the output results by applying the options on the tab "Display columns".

You can view the results on the tab "Results" and can export the data to MS Word or MS Excel by clicking the "Export" button.

You can save the results in a data base table "SUMMARISED_PRODUCT_STRUCTURE" by clicking the tab "Save results". The results in this table can then be accessed via Quick Query and will allow joins to other tables to obtain additional data for components in the structure.

On this tab the following fields can be viewed:

hmtoggle_plus1Additional Options

This tab is only enabled if the user has selected to view a summarised output of the product structure.

This tab, similar to the "Planning data" and "Engineering data" tabs, provides the user with the option to limit the output in accordance with specified criteria entered on this tab.

The default settings with which the tab is opened are set up in such a manner that no items will be excluded from the results list due to selective criteria on any data values.

Should the user only wish to limit the parts in the results to parts having a specific data value for the fields provided on this screen, the following needs to be done:

The appropriate field must be checked in the "Select" column.

The operator value must be selected from the options provided ( =, >, <, between etc.)

The value (or values if a between operator has been selected) must be specified.

Example:

If only parts with a lead time > 30 days are to appear in the results list, check "lead time", select "greater than" in the list of available "operator" values and specify 30 as the value.

If only parts with a lead time between 30 and 60 days are to appear in the results list, check "lead time", select "between" in the list of available "operator" values and specify 30 as the 1st value and 60 as the "value to".

It is advised to always specify a financial year on this tab if any of the selected columns on the "Display columns" tab include data elements from the Part financial year data table such as material cost, labour cost, over heads etc.

If this is not done, a single part will appear as many times in the results list as the number of financial year data records that exist for it.

If the intention is for the results to be displayed in this fashion for financial year price comparison purposes, you can refrain from specifying a specific year, but might still want to specify a between parameter to limit the output to, for example 1999 till 2002.

hmtoggle_plus1Display Columns

The standard results output will always contain the columns Part number, Description, Composite qty per and Unit of measure. These columns cannot be UN-selected and will always appear in the results list.

This tab is applied to view any additional data columns that need to appear in the results list.

It is forced to select "financial year" on this tab if any of the selected columns include data elements from the Part financial year data table such as material cost, labour cost, over heads etc. This is to ensure visibility of the financial year for which the cost is displayed.

It is also advised to specify a financial year on the "Display columns"  tab if any of the selected columns include data elements from the Part financial year data table such as material cost, labour cost, over heads etc.

If this is not done, a single part will appear as many times in the results list as the number of financial year data records that exist for it.

The "Display stock on hand" column will also be forced if 1 or more stock statuses has been selected on the Planning data tab. Clicking this option implies that the user wishes to view stock quantities and the user must therefore enter the parameters for the stock view on the Planning data tab as well.

Note that the columns "Last average cost" and "Last average cost update" will only be available for selection if the stock valuation method as specified on System configuration has been set to "Average costing".

hmtoggle_plus1Engineering Data

This tab is only enabled if the user has selected to view a summarized output of the product structure.

This tab provides the user with the option to limit the output in accordance with specified engineering data criteria entered on this tab.

The default settings with which the tab is opened are set up in such a manner that no items will be excluded from the results list due to selective criteria on any of the engineering data elements provided on the screen.

If the user has specified any selective parameters and wishes to return to the standard default settings, the "Reset" button can be clicked for such purpose.

Should the user only wish to view parts in the results for a specific designer, product or commodity code, the appropriate values must be selected from the drop down lists provided on the screen.

Should the user wish to only view parts with a specific source code, life cycle, classification of characteristics, or with specific settings for MRP-planned, By Products, MRI or serial/lot control attributes, the check boxes need to be UN-checked for the values to be excluded.

For "By Products" a selection can be made if the user wants to view BY Products or exclude By Products or to see only the BY Products.

Example: If only MRP-planned parts must appear in the results list, UN-check the "no" option in the MRP-planned frame.

Note that at least 1 option must be selected in every frame, since not doing so will automatically exclude all parts from the results anyhow. (A part is either MRP-planned or not, so by UN-checking both "yes" and "no", will leave you with parts that are neither planned nor Un-planned and since there is not another MRP-planned  option, all parts will be eliminated should you do this). The same applies to the source code of an item. Since "source" is a mandatory field, you cannot exclude all sources from your selection, since you would end up with no results in the output list.

Appropriate warnings are given if the user has refrained from selecting at least 1 option per frame.

hmtoggle_plus1Lead Time

This tab serves two needs:

1.  The 1st is to calculate and display the critical lead-time path in the Product structure.(thus being the items, and the route in the structure contributing to the composite lead-time for the selected product). To obtain this view, leave the "Exclude planned parts" option UN-checked and click the "Populate" button. The result will NOT display the total structure, but will display and highlight the path that makes up the composite lead-time.

2.  The 2nd is to calculate and display the composite lead-time for all manufacturing activities that includes the lead-time of the parent part, as well as the lead-time of phantom items in the structure bound to be manufactured on the same production order as the selected part. To obtain this, select the option "Exclude planned parts" and click the "Populate" button. The system will thus display the lead-time that should be allowed on a production order to allow adequate lead-time to manufacture the lower level phantom parts and to perform the final assembly of the selected part.

MRP uses the same routine to calculate suggested start- and end dates for planned production orders.

Note that Customer Furnished Items Lead Times are not included in the Lead Time calculations of Manufactured Items.

The list will display the Part Numbers and its position in the structure, it's Qty Per, Composite Qty, Lead Time and the Composite Lead-time as calculated.

hmtoggle_plus1Planning Data

This tab is only enabled if the user has selected to view a summarized output of the product structure.

This tab provides the user with the option to limit the output in accordance with specified planning data criteria entered on this tab.

The default settings with which the tab is opened are set up in such a manner that no items will be excluded from the results list due to selective criteria on any of the planning data elements provided on the screen.

If the user has specified any selective parameters and wishes to return to the standard default settings, the "Reset" button can be clicked for such purpose.

Should the user only wish to view parts in the results for a specific planner, buyer, supplier or controlling division/store code, the appropriate values must be selected from the drop down lists provided on the screen.

Should the user wish to only view parts with a specific ABC classification, or with specific settings for decimal movements/negative stock, fixed account, auto releasing of orders or specific attributes such as consignment stock, floor stock and others, the check boxes need to be UN-checked for the values to be excluded.

Example: If only Fixed account parts must appear in the results list, UN-check the "no" option in the "Fixed account" frame.

Note that at least 1 option must be selected in every frame, since not doing so will automatically exclude all parts from the results anyhow. (A part is either Fixed account or not, so by UN-checking both "yes" and "no", will leave you with parts that are neither fixed account nor Non fixed account and since there is not another Fixed account  option, all parts will be eliminated should you do this). The same applies to the ABC class of an item. Since "ABC class" is a mandatory field, you can not exclude all the classes from your selection, since you would end up with no results in the output list.

Appropriate warnings are given if the user has refrained from selecting at least 1 option per frame.

The exception to the above relates to the "View stock" frame, where 1 or more stock statuses only needs to be selected if stock needs to be viewed. This will in turn force the user to select the "Display stock on hand" option on the tab "Display columns".

The results will then display the stock on hand for every part in the results list according to the stock statuses selected. If a specific division/store has been specified (this is optional), the stock quantity will be limited to stock in the selected division or store.

hmtoggle_plus1Reports

System Reports can be selected and run to be export to an Excel file.

hmtoggle_plus1Results

The results of the Summarised bill of material is displayed on this tab.

The clicking of the tab executes the inquiry in accordance with the various settings and criteria on all the appropriate tabs and lists the parts and all selected columns accordingly.

The standard results output will always contain the columns Part number, Description, Composite qty per and Unit of measure as a minimum. These columns cannot be UN-selected and will always appear in the results list, along with any other columns that has been selected on the "Display columns" tab.

Since the results are contained in a list view, the user can move the columns around to by dragging them to the positions where they prefer the columns to appear. You can also click on any column heading to sort the output in ascending or descending value for the particular column.

You can thus sort by part number, description, unit of measure, price, lead time or any selected column for that matter.

Once the user has moved the columns to his/her liking and sorted the data as required, the EXPORT button can be clicked to export the data to MS Word, MS Excel or any other available application.

Some of these applications (such as MS Excel) will then further provide features to sum values or calculate extended values, sub totals and/or grand totals for columns as required.

hmtoggle_plus1Save Results

You can save the results of a summarised product structure in a data base table "SUMMARISED_PRODUCT_STRUCTURE" by clicking the tab "Save results". The results in this table can then be accessed via Quick Query and will allow joins to other tables to obtain additional data for components in the structure.

To save the results click the button "Apply"

To delete the results already saved in the table click the button "Delete" (this will delete all results in the table "SUMMARISED_PRODUCT_STRUCTURE" for the selected BOM part number but only for the logged-on user. Thus, saved results for the same BOM part number but for other users will not be deleted).

After saving the results, the clicking of the button "View" will provide a quick jump to the function "Quick Query"

hmtoggle_plus1Substitutes\Positioning

This tab will enable once a component in the tree structure (2nd tab), has been selected.

The tab will display 2 lists of additional data for the parent/component selected, being:

Substitute parts: All substitute (alternate) parts than can be applied should shortages or a stock-out necessitate it and if a specific contract allows the use of such an alternate item

Positioning data: A reference to the drawing position annotations. Specifically applicable to parts with "qty per" greater than 1 to indicated the positions as per drawing annotation

where the parts are installed in an assembly.

hmtoggle_plus1Summarised View

If the inquiry results in the display of 1 or more components or parents for the selected part, the "summarised view" option will be enabled.

Clicking this option specifies that a summarised view of the results must be displayed. The result therefore does not display the bill of material levels as is done in an indented fashion, but rather lists every component part in the structure only once, displaying it's total (composite) quantity per. Parts that would normally appear more than once in the structure as displayed in the structure of different parent parts/sub assemblies, would thus be displayed only once with visibility of the total quantity required in the structure of the part for which the summarized inquiry was performed.

This option also enables the subsequent tabs that allows the user to specify selective engineering and planning parameters, as well as special select criteria and the data columns required for the output results.

Once all parameters have been set, the "Results" tab must be clicked to view the output. The output can be sorted, the column order can be changed and the results can then be exported for the purpose of printing a report or for any other purpose.

hmtoggle_plus1View Additional Pieces

The tab "View additional pieces" can be accesses to obtain a view of all links in the product structure where the type of link is either "E" (extra pieces" or "Q" (QA pieces) and to check if the calculation method for the extra- or QA pieces has been predefined via the Product Structure function.

The BOM will be navigated for as many levels as is governed by either the "explode" or "implode" and "stop at" options specified on the 1st tab "Parameters". All parent/component links of type "E" and "Q" will be displayed in the results.
