Transfer Settings

The Transfer Settings tab is used to define the target and source for the transfer.

 

On this tab the following fields can be viewed:

The user must have a security profile linked to the function Transfer Manager with an access allowed of Add.

 

When the "Add" button is clicked a transfer header record is inserted on the Transfer Header table where:

 

The Transfer Set Name is not equal to spaces,
The Description has a length of 3 or more characters,
The Last Update employee is not Inactive "I",
The Source Type is Delimited, Fixed Width, SQL table or Excel Spreadsheet,
The Data Source is not equal to spaces, and
The Target Table Name is a valid user table in the current database.

 

When the "Add" button is clicked, a number of records will be inserted on the Transfer Detail table where:

 

The Transfer Set Name exists on the Transfer Header table,
The Target Column Name is not equal to spaces,
The Target Column Sequence is not less than or equal to zero, and
The Source Column Number is not less than zero.

When the  button is clicked, a common dialog box is displayed.  The user can select the source file for the transfer.

The user must have a security profile linked to the function Transfer Manager with an access allowed of Change.

 

When the "Change" button is clicked a transfer header record will be updated on the Transfer Header table where:

 

The Transfer Set Name is not equal to spaces,
The Description has a length of 3 or more characters,
The Last Changed By employee is not Inactive "I",
The Data Source Type is Delimited, Fixed Width, SQL table or Excel Spreadsheet,
The Data Source is not equal to spaces, and
The Target Table Name is a valid user table in the current database.

 

When the "Change" button is clicked, a number of records will also be updated on the Transfer Detail table where:

 

The Transfer Set Name exists on the Transfer Header table,                
The Target Column Name is not equal to spaces,
The Target Column Sequence is not less than or equal to zero, and
The Source Column Number is not less than zero.

The user must specify the name of the database to which the connection must be made.

The user must have a security profile linked to the function Transfer Manager with an access allowed of Delete.

 

When the "Delete" button is clicked and a transfer header is deleted, all the import detail records are also deleted from the Transfer Detail table.

It displays a description of the Target Set Name selected. The length must be between 3 and 255 characters (mandatory).

When any file type other than SQL Table is selected, the user can enter or select the file name in the "File Name" text box or select a file name from the dialog box when the  button is clicked.

 

When the file name has been typed in/selected, a preview of the first 3 lines are shown in the grid on the Source-Target Mapping tab.

The user must specify the password of the user ID with which the connection must be made.

 

The password is encrypted and replaced with spaces when "Add" or "Change" is clicked

The user must specify the name of the server to which the connection must be made.

When Fixed Width File is selected, and a file name is selected in the "File Name" text box, a preview of the first three lines are shown in the grid on the "Source-Target Mapping" tab.

 

When any other Delimited type is selected and a file name is selected in the "File Name" text box, a preview of the first three lines are shown in the grid on the "Source-Target Mapping" tab.

 

The delimited files supported  is ","," ~", ";", ":", "!", "@", "#", "$", "%", "^", "*", "(", ")", "[", "]", "{", "}", "|", "\", "/", and ".".

 

When Excel is selected, Excel will be opened in the background, the file in the "File Name" text box will be read, and a preview of the first three records are shown in the grid on the "Source-Target Mapping" tab.

 

When SQL Table or Access Table is selected the "Sql Command" text box is enabled allowing the user to specify a Sql command.   The command may not contain Exec, Execute, Delete, Insert, Update and Truncate.

When a source table is entered, the grid on the "Source-Target Mapping" tab is populated with the data from the entered table.

 

A source table name must be specified when working with Access and SQL.

Sql command is only enabled when the "Source Type" Sql Table or Access Table is selected.  The user can specify the Sql command for the transfer.

When a target table is entered, the grid on the "Source-Target Mapping" tab is populated with the columns of the table selected. The "Target Data Type" and "Source Columns" rows are also displayed in the grid.

 

A target table name must be specified when working with Access, SQL and Excel.

 

The "Fixed String" and "Fixed Value" rows are manipulated according to the data type of the column.

To be able to transfer rows the signed on user must have a security profile equal to the Target Table Name if the target database and server are the same as the database you are currently working on.  The function Import Profile is used to set the necessary security profiles.

 

All changes made must first be applied to the database before the transfer can be performed because all the information is read from the database.

 

When the "Transfer" button is clicked, the transfer will be performed based on the settings on the Advanced Settings tab.

The user must specify the name of the user ID with which, the connection is to be made.

When the "View" button is clicked, the contents of the source  file is displayed in Notepad.

You must select "Transfer Function" as an available reference (from the Tools, References menu in a VB editor) to enable access to the object in your Visual Basic project.

 

An example of the Visual Basic code to run Transfer Manager by calling the object is as follows:
